There are thousands of people and organizations that try to help animals of all kinds in need. There are rescue organizations and individuals, fosters, adoption events, no-kill shelters, advocates, and of course those who donate money, supplies and other goods. One area of the effort that is often unseen and unknown is referred to as “transport,” or those who help move animals in need to safety. Individuals and organizations donate their time driving cars, trucks and vans across the city or around the world to help homeless, abused, and neglected dogs, cats and pets of all kinds. They often drive or ride long hours with many travel carriers full of rescued animals to bring them to no-kill shelters, foster homes, adoption events, or other places. It is often particularly helpful and needed in areas that do not have enough (or any) local resources. There is even an organization where small plane and personal aircraft owners and pilots lend a hand to help! Transport is a sweet and kind area of the animal rescue world! If you want to donate your time to work in transport, call your local no-kill shelter, rescue or in some cases, animal cause transportation organization.
