The poaching of wild animals of all kinds has driven and continues to drive many species to extinction. Today the effort to fight against poaching has included everything from 24-hour armed guards at animal sanctuaries and refuges, to special chemicals that render key animal parts driving the poaching business useless if removed from the animal. Unfortunately, this has not stopped the problem throughout the world.
What many do not realize is that often, animals survive poaching attacks. In the past, there had not been much that could be done for surviving animals and they were lost to their injuries. However, today, there are organizations and efforts that help save and rehabilitate animals who have survived poaching, as well as their orphaned babies. One organization, Saving The Survivors, has been on the forefront of rescuing and rehabilitating poaching victims and has successfully done so with several animals. The animals are not only rescued, but treated around the clock for their injuries, including state-of-the-art materials and efforts to help heal their wounds.
It’s moving to watch the team of animal doctors and volunteers that work with Saving The Survivors, how they treat and share updates and information about the animals in their care, and their efforts to stop poaching.
