Just adopt a new friend? Or maybe you’ve decided you want to bring your dog to a dog park for the first time. Off-leash dog parks are a great way for your dog to get exercise and socialize with other dogs. Here are some tips and things to know about dog parks.
Choose the Right Park
There is an array of choices when it comes to dog parks. If you have a small dog, maybe look for a park that has an area just for smaller dogs. Also, you might want to look into terrain and where the park is located. There are parks on the beach, in the woods, on fields of dirt or grass; pick what’s best for your dog!
Take their Leash Off
This is their chance to roam free and play with other dogs, don’t keep them tied up. Keeping them on a leash can be dangerous because your dog, and other dogs, could easily get tangled and injured while playing. Also, your dog could get excited at the sight of other dogs and the leash will tug when they try to run away.
Make Sure You Pick Up After Your Dog
Sometimes the dog park can feel “free range” but it’s still important to pick up after your pet.
Calling for Your Dog
Be sure that your dog comes to you when you call for it. This will eliminate the hassle of chasing after your pet when you’re ready to go home and they want to keep playing.
Keep an Eye On Your Dog
It’s important to supervise your dog while its running around and playing with other dogs. Sometimes dogs don’t get along, and you want to make sure neither of them get hurt.
