Don’t forget to update your pet’s microchip information!
As much as we love our pets, it’s easy to understand how one might forget to update the information on file for our pet’s microchip. After all, you can’t see the tiny little chip so how often do you think about it? Think about it NOW! And make it a habit to think about it regularly enough that you never forget to update the info when needed.
Assuming you have already registered your pet’s microchip information with one of the many registries. If you have not, then you’ll need to visit your vet or a shelter, either of which can scan your pets chip and provide you with the unique ID number.
Understand how it works
Remember, the chips are not tracked by GPS so the only way they work is if you keep the information updated.
Have you checked to make sure the information is correct lately?
In the unfortunate event that you and your pet get separated, the information on file with the registry is used to contact you and reunite you with your beloved pet. Either log in to your registry account or call the registry support center and make sure they have all of the current information on file. Make your correct and current address, phone numbers, email address, pet’s name, veterinarian information and any other pertinent information is on file.
Make reminders
Make a permanent reminder somewhere so you remember to stay on top of it. Set a calendar reminder to check it periodically. If you’re planning a move, add it to the ‘move prep’ list.
